Best. Graduation. Ever. (Newsletter 5/25/20)

Hi Happy Mom!
After all that's happened over the past couple of months, nothing is certain. Doctor's appointments canceled, prom canceled, beaches and restaurants closed, and graduation canceled. I was beginning to feel hopeless. Things were looking very grim. So many special events canceled. But this past weekend was full of surprises. I followed the crowd and planned a drive-by celebration to honor my newest high school graduate. I worked really hard to keep it a surprise, so I told many people about it at the last minute. I'm so overwhelmed with the number of people that showed up to congratulate Kason. It was so much fun! Then the next day (Sunday) Kamehameha planned a drive-thru graduation ceremony. Words cannot express how fantastic this event was. The people in charge and the volunteers were amazing. There were about five pit stops on the way up the hill with "cheerleaders" and goodies for the graduates. The graduation which included face masks, hand sanitizer, and social distancing, was truly the best graduation I've ever attended. The school broke the tradition of requiring the students to wear special event uniforms and banning loud and boisterous cheering, which made the graduation more enjoyable than ever. My son was so happy. We were all so very pleased. 2020 will go down in history as the year with drive-thru graduations, and televised graduation programs.
The thing I learned this past week is that being anxious and acting irrationally will never help. I must learn to trust that things will work out. I am now a proud mama of a college graduate and another high school graduate. I can only hope to be as resilient as my son and his classmates.
