Spaghetti Arms and Noodle Legs (Newsletter 6/15/20)

Happy Monday Happy Mom!
It happened three days ago and I'm still in pain. On Friday my trainer (a.k.a the Hubby) put me through a killer arm and chest workout. When I woke up Saturday morning I could barely lift my arms. Despite all the pain, I can't help but feel good. "No pain, no gain" right? Working out is one thing that I have consistently done these past 3 months during the Covid stay-at-home mandate. I'm really grateful for the home gym we have. Today I went outside and 3 of my children were working out together. It's been such a blessing to be able to spend more time with my children these past few months.
Things are slowly returning to normal, although I am still working from home, teaching summer school online. My son and I got haircuts today. I chopped my hair about 6 inches. The mall was crowded. I'm still a bit apprehensive about going out though because I don't want to bring any germs or viruses home. It's such a catch-22 because I want my children to work and earn money, but things don't feel safe yet (especially with 9 new cases of Corona virus on Oahu today).
One thing that's been on my mind these past two weeks is the abhorrent racism going on in the United States. The cruelness brings me to tears daily. Although I have experienced racism (as a Native Hawaiian) in the past, I can't even imagine what Black people in the United States have to endure. I honestly feel helpless. I was wondering what I could do to help and I found these suggestions while browsing USA Today:

Call or send letters to your local politicians and leaders in your state or city if there are issues you would like to see addressed.

Sign a petition like the NAACP Legal Defense Fund petition for George Floyd. This petition insists "that officials ensure safe policing in times of unrest."

Donate to your local bond/bail fund for protestors.

Support black-owned businesses.

Vote.

We must all vote! I know so many people with the thought that "my vote doesn't matter," but that's far from the truth. I am Hawaiian and I vote. I have stickers and fans that say that sentence. Everyone's vote matters. Everyone matters.

Black Lives Matter.

As mothers, it's so important to always teach our children that no one person is better or lower than another. Have conversations about racism and brainstorm ways to fight racism. We must teach them to be kind always. And to fight for anyone who needs our help. "Actions speak louder than words."
Please share what you chose to do for humanity and the victims of racism on the Happy Moms Facebook page.

I hope you all have the best week ever. Take care of yourself, your health, and your mental wellbeing. Take some time for you. You are worth it!

The two younger kids began distance learning today. Kiera has full-day summer school on Webex and Karter has Driver's Ed on Mondays via Zoom. I'm in my third week of teaching summer school online also. Kason got rehired at his pre-Covid job. And Kiera is starting her own business selling bracelets.
